![]() ![]() He is now called, "Azariah Cain" and is on the new beginning of his Mystic Journey. ![]() His native brothers called him Orenda, but the spirit of God named him Azariah, the name he had waited for all his life. When Azariah finished, he had a new vision and a new name. After that, he stayed in a sweat lodge with Shamans for 24 hours. After his stint with Savoy Brown was completed, Azariah returned to California to work on his soul, music and future by fasting for 40 days and 40 nights. While playing with Savoy Brown, Azariah also recorded with Peter Green (of Fleetwood Mac), Carry Bell (harp player for Howlin' Wolf), Coco Montoya (guitarist for John Mayall), Pinetop Perkins (pianist of Muddy Waters), Paul Usher (harp player for Muddy Waters), Leo Lyons (bassist of Ten Years After), Rodger Earl (drummer of Foghat), Tom Compton (drummer of Johnny Winters). Azariah recorded with Keith Richards (Rolling Stones), Levon Helms (drummer of The Band), and Eric Clapton on Hubert Sumlin's Grammy nominated album "About Them Shoes". Azariah headed to New York and toured with Savoy Brown for 4 years, recorded one album and was the guest artist on many other great musicians' albums. After all that playing, Azariah wanted to retreat to his home in the Mojave desert, but Kim Simmons from Savoy Brown called and asked him to sing and play bass for the legendary English blues group. They formed a new band and performed with the likes of Phil Chen (bassist of Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart), Skunk Baxter (guitarist of the Doobie Brothers), Cindy Lauper, Donny Osmond, Steve Lukather (guitarist of Toto), Billy Preston, Jeff Porcaro (drummer of Toto), Lee Sklar (bassist of Phil Collins), Kenny Lewis (of the Steve Miller Band), Kenny Loggins, Burton Cummings (of the Guess Who), Spencer Davis, Eddie Harris, Gerald Johnson (bassist of the Steve Miller Band), Greg Bissonette (drummer of David Lee Roth), Clarence McDonald (pianist for James Taylor), Jim Keltner (drummer of the Traveling Wilburies and Eric Clapton). The Azariah and Scott Page project recorded songs and even played gigs but it eventually folded. Scott and Azariah recorded music with Steve Ferris (guitarist with Mister Mister), Roc Deadrick (drummer of Tracey Chapman), Larry Treadwell (guitarist of Thomas Dolby), Steve Fister (guitarist of Steppenwolf and Lita Ford). By 1992, Azariah bought a home in the desert, but didn't move in right away because he was writing songs with Scott Page (sax player with Pink Floyd and Toto). While in L.A., Azariah landed a record deal and toured the United States for 2 years. Azariah then moved to San Francisco, then Los Angeles and formed his own band, Mama Roo. While in Canada, Azariah played with friend Joe Mavety (guitarist of Maryanne Faithful's band) for 4 years. ![]() Returning in the late 80's and landing in Toronto, a place he had never been but had friends who lived there. By the late 70's, Azariah Cain decided to leave the country and travel the world. Azariah was never content to play one style of music and he demonstrated early on his ability to be extremely flexible as to form and content. ![]() Music greats such as Jimmy Reed, John Lee Hooker, Howlin' Wolf, Hubert Sumlin, Steve Gaines (Lynard Skynard), Mitch Ryder, Rusty Day (of Amboy Dukes and Cactus), Fred Smith (Guitarist of MC5 & Patti Smith Band), Wayne Cramer (guitarist of MC5), Scott Ashton (guitarist & drummer of Iggy Pop), Tim Buckley, Scott Richards, and Jack White (drummer of Rick Springfield). He was unaware that he would soon be playing with future legends and some of the best musicians in the world. Azariah, as he prefers to be called, became restless and wanted to travel the world playing music, so he left home at age 13. Rehearsing with his bass guitar all night and day, then jamming with every musician in his neighborhood, Nathaniel became known as "Azariah Cain". The summer of protest and change is where it all came together for Nathaniel. Clemens, MI and this is where music changed his life. After 6 years in Detroit, Nathaniel's family moved to Mt. Blues, Jazz and R & B filled his heart and the Creator of the Universe stimulated his spirit. At age six his family moved to Detroit, MI, and it was there that the love of music entered his soul.
